Glad you liked the article. Yep getting away from the queues is very important after a while in Orlando!

Universal is itself out-doors but a lot of the attraction queues are indoor and have blissful Air-con.

While breeding dolphins maybe one option they are still sentient creature and maybe should not be in captivity are all. We would prefer they focus on rescue animals and ones that would not survive in the wild anymore. It may be this sort of attraction has had it’s day and is on the way out? 

We have not actually been to DeLand sounds like are nice location and completely different from Orlando we will check it out next time we are in Florida. We have a big Ice-Cream weakness so not sure “by the pound” will be great for our waistlines lol

I did not know that most of Universal’s attractions are inside. It must feel a lot like an indoor stadium! The entertainment to make long lines feel shorter is another feature I must keep in mind.

I wish SeaWorld could develop a dolphin-breeding program where the dolphins are pasture raised. That is, the equivalent of pasture-raised chickens. Maybe they could build a great salt lake. It sounds like a big project — but then these great big amusement parks are about thinking big.

LEGOLAND is a great reminder that Legos are an art form. Every Lego is a 3D pixel.

The wax museum sounds like an exercise in 3D photography.

The Kennedy Space Center is a national landmark that space lovers will want to visit. Gatorland sounds like another crucial national landmark, for our environment.

Discovery Cove is another important attraction for nature lovers.

One of my favorite places in the Orlando area is the town of DeLand. Its downtown is one of the most interesting places I’ve seen. There is a soft-serve ice-cream shop that sells ice cream by the pound — just like frozen yogurt, and with as many flavors (Sweet Lics). There is also a bar that makes its own mead, which it serves from a tap (Abbey Bar).

Thanks, Glad you like the article. We too only thought of Disney on our first trip but by the end we couldn’t wait to get away from them! Don’t get us wrong we love Disney and Disney world is AMAZING! It can get a bit much though lol. The relentless queuing and money extraction wear you down eventually (assuming you are >15 years old…young people seem to never tire of the place!) It is best to plan Disney breaks as you go to keep the interest up and the resentment down lol! 

As you can see from our Article there is So much to do outside the Disney parks, it’s a great destination on it’s own really. Be sure to check out the Speakeasy on your next trip to really drown those Disney blues!

I’ve honestly never really thought past Mickey and his merry band of misfits when considering visiting Orlando, but your article is a good reminder that every city is much more than its “main attraction.”
